Coenzyme Q10 is also known as ubiquinone or ubidecarenone. It is a fat-soluble substance, present in most eukaryotic cells and localized mainly in mitochondria. It is a component that participates in the electron transport chain, aerobic cellular respiration and energy production in the form of ATP.

Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant activity, since it acts as an energy carrier and is continuously transformed by redox from ubiquinone (oxidized form) to ubiquinol (reduced form).
