Description
Taurine is an amino acid, which is not used in protein synthesis, but is found free in most body tissues, mainly in large concentrations in the heart and brain.
Taurine helps the movement of potassium, magnesium and sodium, mineral trace elements that are key to heart and brain function. It is known as a neurotransmitter enhancer and protects brain function. Clinical studies suggest that taurine strengthens the myocardium and therefore helps prevent heart failure and arrhythmias that occur in heart disease, such as coronary heart disease.
Taurine is also important for the body’s lipid metabolism. It is an essential component of bile, necessary for the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and for the regulation of serum cholesterol levels, while it is related to the regulation of insulin in the body. It also protects the eyes from oxidative damage caused by the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, and stimulates the body’s immune system.
Taurine deficiency leads to a decrease in nitric oxide production, which causes a decrease in blood flow, and oxygen to the muscles. Nitric oxide is a gas that our body produces and helps regulate blood flow.
Caution: it is not recommended for people taking antihypertensive and diuretic drugs or experiencing symptoms of hypotension.
